“Design is Limited Only by Imagination” – Beril Başaran

Beril Başaran, founder and designer of Artebel Design, has been signing off on the interior designs of CMB Yachts’ megayachts over 47 meters since 2005. She shares the latest trends in the megayacht decoration sector.

CMB Yacht won the International Yacht Awards 2011 with the interior design project for the megayacht named Mina. Located in the Antalya Free Zone, CMB Yacht’s boat manufacturing process is guided by consultant Beril Başaran, who managed the interior design and implementation of the Orient Star and Mystic yachts. The interior design for the 47-meter Miracle is also her work, and she is currently working on the new project, Magic.

With over 20 years of experience in the world of decoration, Beril Başaran, the founder and designer of Artebel Design, has brought innovation to residential, hotel, restaurant, megayacht, and private jet projects. Since 2005, she has been supervising megayacht interior projects.

The interior design of Mina, created for CMB Yachts, won the “Best Interior Design” award at the International Yacht Awards in 2011. We asked her about the secrets of megayacht decoration.

How should a megayacht’s interior be decorated, and what should be considered?

We continuously follow new designs in form, material, and color. This approach guides our projects, keeping them up-to-date. Curved lines are ideal for moving boats, and decor and lighting should generally be fixed to the surfaces they are installed on. Storage areas should be designed to hold items securely and without gaps. The crew’s quarters should be arranged in proportion to the size of the yacht, focusing on comfort and usability.

What materials should be used to withstand marine conditions?

We use durable, long-lasting, and up-to-date materials for these megayachts, which are in constant interaction with nature, including the sea, sun, and rain. We are very open to using any materials, technologies, and production techniques that can enhance our quality. We follow technological advancements closely, incorporating materials from the global market into our designs. Our first choice is always natural materials. In our projects, the main structures like floors, walls, and ceilings are made from moisture-resistant wood, impact-resistant natural stone, and certified fire-resistant fabrics.

Which foreign designers and brands do you follow?

I admire the designs of Patricia Urquiola, Dimore Studio, Paola Lenti, and Rodolfo Dordoni. The most important criterion for this admiration is the thought process they bring to their products or concepts.

What are the 2017 trends, colors, and materials for yachts?

Despite changing social profiles in 2017, there is a strong desire for people to reconnect with nature and their inner selves. I believe that escaping the city has brought people closer to the idea of living in nature and by the sea. In yacht design, the minimalist lines, natural colors, and materials we always use stand out as Artebel Design’s preference. The 2017 trends are quite colorful, with shades like sky blue, coral, sand, ecru, earth tones, dark saffron, gray-blue, and powder representing a return to nature and new romanticism. Meanwhile, vibrant hues like pink, purple, green, and blue in more plastic tones, as well as pastel shades of blue, pink, yellow, green, and white, represent urban and virtual lifestyles. As Artebel Design, we make small touches in yacht design using these trend colors and materials.
